Literature Wonder Cards™ are printable inquiry cards designed to help students move beyond simply finishing a text and begin thinking more deeply about meaning, language, perspective, symbolism, identity, culture, and the human questions stories carry across time.

Each card begins with a literary idea, work, author, or tradition and then invites students to interpret, question, connect, discuss, and investigate. Rather than treating literature as a checklist of books to complete, Wonder Cards encourage learners to see stories as a way of understanding themselves, other people, and experiences far beyond their own.

The 14-card Literature Deck explores The Epic of Gilgamesh and enduring human questions, The Iliad and meaningful moments, The Odyssey and personal journeys, The Divine Comedy and growth through stages, Beowulf and literary preservation, Macbeth and theatrical tradition, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and voice, The Lord of the Rings and language-building, One Hundred Years of Solitude and magical realism, “The Raven” and repetition, Emily Dickinson and metaphor, Hansel and Gretel and hidden meanings, Invisible Man and identity, and the ways stories across cultures and time help us understand ourselves, one another, and the human questions that continue across generations.

Students are encouraged to notice themes, interpret symbols, compare perspectives, examine author choices, use textual evidence, recognize patterns across stories, and connect literature to history, culture, identity, imagination, and lived experience.

Each deck includes:

  • 14 printable Literature Wonder Cards™
  • Carefully selected literary facts and quotations
  • Wonder questions that move students beyond recall into interpretation and reflection
  • Share prompts for meaningful discussion and perspective-taking
  • Research/Explore activities that extend learning through analysis, comparison, investigation, writing, and creative thinking
  • A detailed Conversation Guide with big ideas, follow-up questions, and support for open-ended discussion
  • Standards and learning objectives supporting close reading, theme, character analysis, figurative language, point of view, structure, research, writing, and evidence-based discussion
  • Step Into the Text opportunities that direct students toward original works, public-domain excerpts, and further literary exploration where appropriate

The Literature collection is especially well suited to approximately grades 6–12, with its emphasis on symbolism, metaphor, voice, identity, literary preservation, complex texts, and interpretation.

Use Literature Wonder Cards™ for whole-class discussion, literature circles, small groups, enrichment, warm-ups, independent study, homeschool, research extensions, or alongside an existing ELA curriculum.

The cards can be used individually or woven into a larger literature study. There is no need to rush through the deck. A single question can lead to a discussion, a writing assignment, a research project, or a completely new way of reading a familiar story.

Because great literature does more than tell us what happened. It gives us something to keep thinking about long after the story ends.
